Storing Away The Old and Styling the New One
Brilliance in Basket Decor
January 07, 2013
Now that the New Year is finally here we look to see what new things we can do to make our living environment more satisfactory and pleasing to the eye. We ask ourselves questions like: How can I get rid of so much clutter? Or what is the best way to hide things that are out of place without having to throw them away? Well the best answer to these questions are baskets.
Without having to use things like storage bins and metal file cabinets, which can add less space to a room and throw a room way off of décor, baskets will not only hide a legion of mess but will also add warmth and composure to a room. The best thing about baskets are that they come in a variety of shapes, colors, and styles, with or without handles. What does this mean for you and your room? This means that no matter the color, size and condition of your area and space, you will always be able to find one that best suits your liking. They have a tendency of adding appealing storage to any space. Here are 3 ideas and tips that you can use:
1st TIP: Add character to your bookcase with baskets! If you have small items scattered around your bookcase shelf that seem to cause chaos and confusion, place a basket that will fit on it and put the items inside. This will give the bookcase and room more poise. And if you need the smaller items later, you can just pull the basket out and have access to whatever it is that you need. At least now, the items are hidden and out of sight. This will clean up the bookcase shelf and give the decoration more order. A great accessory for storage as well!
2nd TIP: A while back, I owned a rubber plant that I was trying to keep alive and help grow. However, the plant didn’t survive because I don’t quite have that ‘Green Thumb’ as people call it. I did benefit from the plant once it died though. I received the plant inside a brown wicker basket. When I threw the dead plant out, I reused the basket for holding rolls of toilet tissue in my bathroom. It was a great solution in recycling the basket that my plant was in. Now I have something that’s cute and quaint to put my tissue rolls in and the basket is an eye-opening accessory to my bathroom.
3rd TIP: Another problem that can cross us is having miscellaneous magazines lying around everywhere. And because there is a new issue every month we can all become bombarded with magazines the whole year. The #1 question is……. Where and what do I do with all these magazines from last year that I don’t quite want to throw away? The answer… a basket. I found an old basket in my storage and decided to use it as a magazine holder. Once it was dusted off and cleaned, I placed all the magazines that I had already read into the basket. It has a handle on it for easy moving. It sits on my living room floor right next to my upholstered chair. So now, if anyone sits there they can pick up a magazine for a quick read if they want. That magazine basket adds a whole new look to my living room.
There you have it! Here are some quick tips and ideas on how to get that clutter from under you and into a decorative basket. Try any of these at home and see what brilliance a basket can add to your space.
